Tottenham 1-1 Leeds: Roberto de Zerbi looks nervously over his shoulder even after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty turns Matthijs Tell from hero to zero.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty gave Leeds a point and Tottenham were relieved.

Just when Tottenham looked like they were starting to look safe, they hit the self-destruct button.

Tottenham forward Matthijs Tell played hero and villain, conceding a crazy penalty after scoring a sensational opening goal, but this means they are still definitely in danger.

After a reckless challenge on Teru’s Ethan Ampadu, Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored an equalizer from the penalty spot, restoring the home fans’ nerves.

Tottenham and West Ham each have two games in hand, but with just two points separating them, this survival scrap is far from over. Incredibly, Tottenham are yet to win at home in this year’s Premier League and home fans will be worried that they need to beat Everton here on the final day.

West Ham must play Newcastle on Saturday, but suddenly Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been given a lifeline, knowing a win would put them ahead of Tottenham.

West Ham play Leeds on the final day, while Tottenham face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge before facing Everton. Imagine that. Everton manager David Moyes comes to West Ham’s rescue again – and suddenly it doesn’t seem so difficult.

That’s because although Tottenham have won back-to-back games against Wolves and Aston Villa have lifted themselves out of the relegation zone, not all ailments have been completely cured.

This game was their objective, but their home form is the root of all their problems as they have yet to win at their home stadium this year. That’s an astonishing number, but the home fans were wonderfully supportive all night long, so no one will question it.

They sensed an opportunity with Arsenal’s win over West Ham 24 hours earlier, a big boon for Tottenham and Leeds. This ensured Leeds’ safety and gave Tottenham the chance to move four points clear of London rivals West Ham with two games remaining.

Tottenham applied a lot of pressure in the first half, but it was actually Leeds who had the best chances in the first half, as Joe Rodon’s header forced a fine save from Spurs keeper Antonin Kinski.

After that, the home team made the breakthrough. The corner was not cleared and fell into the tell. Tell steadied himself, controlled his body and fired a beautiful shot into the top corner of the goal. What a goal! Tottenham could have made it 2-0, but Richarlison missed a big chance at his near post and was made to pay the price.

It was Tell’s crazy high challenge on Ampadu, and referee Jared Gillett awarded the penalty after a lengthy penalty check. Calvert-Lewin beat the hosts, sending Leeds fans into a frenzy. What a weekend they had!

And it was Leeds who almost came close. Leeds substitute Sean Longstaff ran through in stoppage time and his shot was tucked under the crossbar by Kinski. That was a huge moment.

James Maddison, who came on as a substitute for Spurs, looked upbeat after a long layoff and shouted for a penalty, but a VAR check revealed that Lucas Nmeka had touched the ball.

This was disappointing for Leeds, but now Tottenham are still looking nervous and they will know they can’t rely on their final day showdown with Everton. Sadly, Tottenham suffered their biggest defeat of the season at home and still have a fight to survive.
