Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes congratulated Marcus Rashford on winning the La Liga title on Sunday while on loan at Barcelona. The Reds loanee broke the deadlock with a stunning free-kick against rivals Real Madrid.
The Catalan club won 2-0, clinching their second consecutive title in Spain’s top flight, and after the game Rashford revealed he wanted to confirm a permanent move to Barça. The La Liga side have a £26m buyout clause in his loan deal with United to secure his services. Barcelona have until June 15 to activate their buyout option for the 28-year-old, but reports from Spain suggest Barca are reluctant to pay the agreed amount and could try to renegotiate the deal.
United have no intention of bringing the academy product back into the club’s first team, leaving his future uncertain.
Despite this, Fernandes appears to still have considerable support at Old Trafford, posting a message on his Instagram Story. He said, “Congratulations, little brother. You deserve it.”
Barça head coach Hansi Flick has expressed his satisfaction in working with Rashford, but declined to comment on negotiations regarding his future at the Camp Nou. He said: “I’m very happy with Marcus.
“He showed his quality and scored an important goal. I can’t say anything about his future, but we have to focus on the game until the end of the season.”
Rashford has scored 14 goals and provided a further 14 assists in all competitions for Barcelona this season, helping the Catalan giants win La Liga and the Spanish Supercopa.
“It was really good. We came here to win, so we want to win as much as we can, so this is one more thing on top of that,” he told reporters after Sunday’s game.
“Yeah, this team is a great team. They’re going to win a lot in the future. So it’s special to be a part of that. So we’ll see.”
