Manchester United risk entering negotiations with rival clubs if Michael Carrick continues to delay an offer for a permanent position at Old Trafford, according to former defender Jaap Stam. Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim earlier this year to lead the team back into the Champions League, has two games left on his contract with United.
The former Middlesbrough manager’s efforts have been widely praised and the club are set to seal third place in the Premier League, 12 months after finishing 15th. The 44-year-old has been appointed until the end of the season, but his future remains uncertain and a United manager has not been named this summer.
Mr Carrick insisted he was satisfied with the ambiguity of his situation.

Stam believes Carrick is close to making summer plans involving United and other clubs. The Dutch legend feels the former midfielder has achieved more than enough to deserve a deal with Theater of Dreams.
“He’s having great days right now and doing very well, so I think we need to do that (give him a contract),” Stam told ComeOn. “I can’t imagine negotiations not progressing or starting now, because if he wants to continue as manager, if he wants to make a change somewhere, or if he wants to bring players somewhere else, he himself needs to consider other clubs now.
“So now it’s time to make a decision and I can’t imagine not talking to him now and saying, ‘Okay, maybe I’d like to go and give him a contract for the next season or the next two seasons and see what happens’, after the success we’ve had, getting into the Champions League.”
“And there’s always a discussion with the fans, and whenever we don’t have success, they say, ‘Well, it’s either lack of experience or he’s too young or we should have brought in this manager.’
“But he knows the club very well. And I think it’s a very positive thing that he knows what’s happened before, and maybe the new owners coming in, and how he needs to run the club, what he needs to do, and how he feels as a United manager and player.”

“He can bring that feeling to the players and I think that’s what he’s already doing. And I think that with the great people on the board, the people who are very dedicated and want to make a difference, he can help a young manager like him take the next step or have great success at the club.”

United are one of the clubs reportedly keen on signing Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. The Spanish manager has already confirmed that he will leave the Cherries at the end of the season.
For now, he refuses to get drawn into speculation about his next move. “We’re not in a hurry,” Iraola said. “I won’t talk about my future. I’m completely focused on finishing this season with tangible rewards for the[Bournemouth]players and supporters. “It wasn’t an easy decision[to leave]but once I do, there’s a sense of relief.
“I feel like we were able to use that in a positive way. Since that day, not only have we gotten great results, but the atmosphere has also improved.
“Everyone is clear. The relationship is very clean and honest. Okay, this is going to happen, next season Marco Rose will be our manager. We all know what is going on. We are in a good position and we will be able to use this in a positive way.”
