Harry Kane gave his take on the upcoming final between Arsenal and PSG

Arsenal will face an uphill battle against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, according to Harry Kane. PSG booked their place in the final on Wednesday night after a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich saw the defending champions progress 6-5 on aggregate.

Ousmane Dembele’s early goal in Munich gave the away side a two-goal lead to defend and they did so impressively. Kane found the back of the net in added time, but it was too little too late for Bayern.

PSG thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in last year’s showpiece in one of the most one-sided finals of all time. This time they will face an Arsenal side competing in their first Champions League final for 20 years.

The Gunners topped the group stage and are unbeaten in all 14 matches in the competition this season, having conceded just six times. They saw Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate to reach the final in Budapest on May 30 and will go in as underdogs, according to Kane.

OPINION

“In my opinion, PSG are slightly favorites in the final,” Kane told Sky Sports Germany.

Although he scored late on, Kane was not given many sights of goal on Wednesday night, with William Pacho and Marquinhos impressive in central defence. The England captain has now turned his focus elsewhere.

“It’s tough. We had enough chances today to reach the final,” Kane added. “Now my focus is on the DFB-Pokal final. We have the chance to win the double.”

PSG are aiming to become the first team to successfully defend their Champions League title since Real Madrid won three successive titles between 2016 and 2018. Manager Luis Enrique is expecting a tough game against Arsenal and his former team-mate Mikel Arteta.

“I appreciate Mikelito Arteta!” he said when asked about their opponents. “We used to be team-mates when we were kids, he did a great job at Arsenal. It will be a difficult, hard game but we believe in our football style.”

Asked about his side’s performance against Bayern, Enrique said: “The character we showed against a team like Bayern is so positive. We’re so happy to reach a second Champions League final in a row. It was very intense.

“Very difficult. They play football at the highest level. Both teams are similar, we love to press higher. We are very happy. In two days I’m going to celebrate my birthday. I’m very happy. We’re in the next phase of the competition, the final of the Champions League. We want to give our supporters that kind of gift.”
