Casemiro believes Jamie Carragher has ended his famous ‘walk away from football’, a comment he attributed to his bitterness over Liverpool’s Champions League defeat.
Casemiro insists that Jamie Carragher’s rant about him “quitting football” two years ago was likely born out of “frustration” after watching his beloved Liverpool lose twice to Brazilians Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The Manchester United midfielder will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in the summer, despite regaining his form under manager Michael Carrick. He has been an integral part of their comeback, returning to the Champions League after a disastrous few months.
Casemiro plays an important role and looks like a player who was very effective at Real a few years back. They won the Champions League five times during their time at the Bernabéu, beating Liverpool in the finals in 2018 and 2022, and one wonders if Carragher was upset with them when he took his famous blow.
In 2024, when United were in dire straits, Casemiro was approached by Carragher, insisting he needed to leave the Premier League.

“This has to stop because we are looking at one of the greatest players of our time. “I always remember the words, ‘Leave football before football leaves you.’ Football has left him. He needs to put an end to his time at Le Mans and move on. At his level, he shouldn’t have to go through this. He’s too good a player to be laughed at by Crystal Palace. He needs to be finished.
Asked about these comments, Casemiro told TNT Sport Brasil: “Everyone says what they want on TV. I’m not the kind of person who gets involved in that. But it’s a bit normal, because I won two Champions League titles against his team. Maybe there’s still some bitterness there after winning two titles against his club.”
Carragher then reversed those comments and called for a truce to the United midfielder. “I respect his opinion. I don’t hold any grudges. What’s important is that he realized he was wrong and changed his opinion. That’s the most important thing.”
Casemiro has scored some big goals and is enjoying his best performance in the final third of the year, but Carragher recently said he will have to stop the Brazilian if he wants to fight back.
He said: “If you look at his performance not only at home against Fulham but also in the Premier League this season, you think about what he did last week away against Arsenal and at home against Manchester City.
“If Casemiro wants to hit back at me, he has every right to say, ‘Leave the pundits before the pundits leave!'” He could definitely win one of them back. He looks like a completely different player because of him. ”
