Manchester United secured Champions League qualification last week, but it looks like the Red Devils could go into next season with a controversial new sponsor
Despite the Premier League banning betting companies from sponsoring shirts, Manchester United are negotiating an eight-figure sponsorship deal with Betway.
In 2023, Premier League clubs have jointly agreed to remove betting companies from their kits. From the start of the 2026-27 campaign, betting ads will no longer appear on the shirts of any team in English football’s top flight.
However, United are negotiating a sponsorship deal worth £18m with Betway, which would see the betting company sponsor their training kit. The deal may not sit well with the club’s fan base and English football.

The Manchester Evening News reported that negotiations were at an advanced stage and the Betway logo would be featured prominently on United’s clothing worn by players at Carrington’s training base. As a result, you will be shown in video and photo content taken of United players during training sessions.
United’s training kit was initially sponsored by blockchain company Tezos, but that deal ended in June 2025. Betway is previously the shirt sponsor of West Ham United and also has global gambling partnerships with Manchester City, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Betway’s deal with United is thought to be worth up to £18m, a hefty sum for a single partner and comparable to Bayern Munich’s partnership with Allianz, which includes stadium naming rights.
United have been without training wear sponsorship this season. When the contract with Tezos ended, United decided there was no need to rush into signing a new sponsor.
They wanted to take the time to consider a sponsor that met all the right financial criteria, but also had a strong, marketable fit with the club itself. Red Devils executives met with Tanzania, the African arm of the Six Rivers Foundation.
Despite United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe being an investor in the conservation project, no deal was reached. When United’s majority owners Joel and Avram Glazer visited Carrington in January, the club’s commercial income was one of the main points of discussion.
The club has also begun working with former United sales manager Leo Thompson’s marketing agency Two Circles. The company has been helping the club find a new sleeve sponsor as its contract with DXC expires in the summer.
The search has become even easier with Michael Carrick leading United to next season’s Champions League. They defeated Liverpool 3-2 at Old Trafford to seal their place in Europe’s elite competition.
