Manchester City will show confidence in Phil Foden with new contract despite the attacking midfielder’s continued struggles this season
Phil Foden is set to sign a new and improved contract that will keep him at Manchester City until 2030. And the news will give Foden a much-needed boost after enduring a difficult season for Josep Guardiola’s side.
Foden was due to enter the final 12 months of his current contract in June. However, Etihad bosses have moved to secure the attacking midfielder’s long-term future after months of negotiations with the 25-year-old.
And news that his future has been decided before the start of the World Cup could help Foden force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s final England squad.
Foden has struggled to find his best form in recent months and has found himself left out of manager Josep Guardiola’s starting XI. He hasn’t scored a goal in a league match since December.

To make matters worse, Tuchel has made it clear that there is no guarantee Foden will be in the squad for the North American finals, which begin in five weeks’ time.
Tuchel will be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing an attacking midfielder.
Foden was the only player to start in both matches against England in March in the final training camp before the tournament.
Foden has won 18 major trophies with City, including the 2023 Treble and six league titles.
Former England captain Wayne Rooney admitted in a recent interview that it was difficult to see a precocious talent like Foden left on the bench.
“I think we should have him in the team,” Rooney said.
“I love watching him play. I love his little movements, the way he gets into pockets of space. It doesn’t feel good to see him sitting on the bench.
“I think he’s done well (this season). He’s had some bad times, but when you have bad times and you get sent off for weeks on end, I think with a player of that quality you just have to keep playing him.”
