Manchester United have agreed to Brazil’s request to rest Matheus Cunha for the final three games of the season, but that won’t happen, according to reports
Manchester United have dismissed claims that the club has reached an agreement with the Brazilian Football Federation to rest Matheus Cunha for the remainder of the season.
Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to keep Cunha as fresh as possible for the World Cup and has asked United to exclude him from the remaining three league games, according to reports.
However, United have scorned the idea, insisting that no talks have taken place with Ancelotti or other managers in South America. Meanwhile, United have made it clear that Cunha will play a big role in the culmination of the team’s campaign.
Despite United qualifying for the Champions League with a game in hand, caretaker manager Michael Carrick is desperate to ensure his side finish the season with a win.

United still need to secure a third-place finish and signing him would be worth around £50m for the English giants. There is the small issue of Carrick wanting to further improve his chances of winning the manager’s job permanently.
Carrick is in pole position and club leaders are expected to make a decision within the next four weeks. Cunha made a splash in his first season at United after joining from Wolves for £62.5 million last summer.
The attacking midfielder started 27 league games and scored nine goals, helping United return to the top table of European football. This includes important goals in wins against Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool.
The 26-year-old has won 21 international caps since making his debut in 2021 and is expected to be included in manager Ancelotti’s squad for the North American World Cup, which starts in five weeks.
