Manchester United are preparing for a tumultuous summer as the campaign draws to a close. The Red Devils’ victory over Liverpool secured Champions League football and focus will soon turn to an overhaul of the squad. Michael Carrick is awaiting confirmation on whether he will continue as United manager next term, but there are a number of players who could leave in the summer.
With only three games remaining, it is thought that some players may already be playing their final game in a United shirt. As United’s organization focuses on signing new players, the transfer window will provide an opportunity for players already on the fringes to pursue moves.
Here are nine players who could leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Marcus Rashford has been subject to rumors of a transfer since he was loaned to Barcelona last year. The Catalan giants have an option to make the move permanent for around £26m, and Rashford has been open about his ambitions to remain at Camp Nou.
If Barcelona do not choose to make his move permanent, there will be no shortage of interest in the England international, who scored 13 goals and contributed 14 assists during his loan spell. Although a return to United remains a possibility, it seems almost certain that Rashford is finally ready to sever ties with the club he has supported since his childhood.

The midfielder has failed to make the impact expected since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024. Ugarte was supposed to be a natural successor to Casemiro’s role next season, but he has struggled to produce his best football since moving to the Premier League.
Ugarte has already been linked with a move to AC Milan, and if he remains at Old Trafford, he would likely fall further down the pecking order. He has started just eight league games this season, but a new challenge elsewhere could be the catalyst needed to revive his fortunes.
Joshua Zirkzee failed to establish himself as a first-team regular during his two seasons at United. The Dutch international has scored nine goals in 72 appearances and has seen several forwards surpass him in the pecking order.
The 25-year-old attracted attention during the January transfer window but continued to struggle to feature during Carrick’s tenure as manager. A return to Italy could offer the former Bologna player a chance to rediscover his best form.
Former Fenerbahce shot-stopper Altay Bayndir would have harbored ambitions to become United’s number one. However, Senne Lamence’s impressive performance put a huge dent in those aspirations.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined since Lamence arrived from Royal Antwerp. Next season could bring bigger opportunities for Bindil, but the experienced goalkeeper may be hoping to establish himself as first choice elsewhere.

Rasmus Hjølund is set to leave United permanently this summer. He joined Napoli on loan and the club were obliged to sign him for £38 million if they qualified for the Champions League.
Antonio Conte’s side are second in Serie A, eight points behind fifth-placed Como, and are almost certain to qualify with three games remaining. The Denmark international, who is effectively set to join United in 2023, has scored 14 goals this season.

Jadon Sancho moved from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and joined as a promising player. However, he has only made 81 appearances for United and is currently on loan at Aston Villa, marking his third temporary departure from the club.
He is expected to become a free agent this summer, and there have been rumors of a return to Dortmund. The 26-year-old excelled for Germany early in his career and returned on loan in 2024.
It seems unlikely that the former United number one will regain his position next season. Ramens has excelled since taking over from Onana last year. Andre Onana impressed during his loan spell at Trabzonspor as he looks to revive his career. The former Ajax and Inter Milan player should have no shortage of suitors given his vast experience.
Tyrell Malasia is set to leave United when his contract expires this summer. The 26-year-old has been with the club since 2022 and has made just two appearances this season.
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is also one of the players whose contract expires at the end of the campaign. The 40-year-old has been third choice since returning to United in 2021, making his last appearance in February 2023.
