Koby Mainu has had a great week at Manchester United after signing a new contract with the Red Devils, scoring the winning goal against Liverpool and praising Michael Carrick.
Koby Mainu has praised Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, saying he would “die for him”. The former midfielder has made a huge impact at Old Trafford since replacing Ruben Amorim.
United’s excellent form has seen the club qualify for next season’s Champions League. Sunday’s victory over rivals Liverpool sealed their spot.
Mainu, 21, was the key to the victory, scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 win. And when the full-time whistle blew, he praised Carrick.
Mainou told Sky Sports: “He (Carrick) played a big role. He gave confidence not just to me but to all the players. Everyone wants to follow him, fight for him and die on the pitch for him. That’s what we showed today.”
United’s turnaround under Carrick coincided with Maynou’s return to the team. The academy graduate looked certain to leave the club under manager Ruben Amorim, but he has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract with United until 2031.

Speaking about United’s win, he said: “It’s 100 per cent (an amazing turnaround). It’s also a credit to the players and the manager that we’ve been able to turn things around. We’re just looking forward, but we still need to finish the season on a strong note. That’s not enough for us. We just want to keep winning and keep winning.”
“Of course, it was always difficult when I wasn’t playing football,” Mainu added about his form. “I think I tried to stay as positive as I could, continue to work hard, keep my head down and try to get these things.
“I haven’t been around the goal that often before, but I’m glad to be there for such a special occasion and such a special game.”
United and Mainoo will be aiming to continue their good form despite having already qualified for the Champions League. Carrick’s side travel to Sunderland next weekend, with games against Nottingham Forest and Brighton scheduled before the end of the campaign.
United currently sit in third place and if they can maintain this position it would be their best result in the Premier League since the 2022/23 season.
