Liverpool took a strong interest in Alexander Isaac and informed Newcastle of his intention to sign him.
If Liverpool fans thought the excitement around the Reds’ transfer window had peaked by arriving at Florian Wiltz’s club record, they were wrong.
Tuesday brought new activity around Liverpool’s incoming calls and exits. After the Reds expressed interest in Newcastle United’s forward, the headline act was Alexander Isaac.
The Magpies clearly don’t want to sell them, but they’ve been painted the horns by their rapid moves in the Liverpool market and years of interest in Hugo Ekitique from Aintrak Frankfurt, who turned down Newcastle in the past.
It was Frankfurt who had rejected 23-year-old Newcastle’s £70 million bid on Tuesday. Liverpool, who had been monitoring Ekichike this summer, also felt a chance to strike and made contact with Frankfurt on Wednesday over the French move.

It can be considered a power mauve from the Premier League champions, and the Reds are effectively referred to as Newcastle’s bluff for reasons to bid on Ekitique in the first place. Magpies insists they want to combine him with Isaac, but it is doubtful whether that is possible from a tactical and financial perspective.
They could probably accommodate both in the season before Isaac travels next summer, but Liverpool’s very public expression against the Swedes is seen as a way to force both players and Newcastle’s hands.
If he says he wants to leave, Liverpool will start trading for around £120 million, but if Newcastle either stays or in fact insists he wants to stay, the Reds will explore Ekitique’s move further, thereby ruining Newcastle’s plans for succession.
Of course, the Reds are not either player, and the likes of Joain Wissa, Ollie Watkins, Victor Osimhen and even Marcus Rashford have been debated as alternatives, the latter may be unlikely, but Isaac and Exech are currently at the top of the bill.
The No. 9 move only accelerates Darwin Nunes’ summer exit from the Reds, despite the Uruguayans seeing a potential move towards Naples’ collapse. The Italian champions deemed Nunez too expensive and instead moved to Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca.
Nunes is still in the Anfield departure lounge, but it remains to be seen whether his previous interest in him from Atletico Madrid has been followed up. The Saudi Arabian club continues to monitor him even after the bid was rejected in January, but the movement will only take place on Liverpool’s terms.
The same can be said about Nunez’s teammate Luis Diaz, but now those terms simply aren’t satisfied. Liverpool rejected an offer of around £58 million from Bayern Munich earlier this week, repeating once again that the Colombians were not on sale.
Diaz, 28, is known to be open to accepting new challenges and perhaps more importantly new contracts elsewhere, with Liverpool’s indication offering a new deal that remains on the same contract he signed when he joined the Reds from Porto in January 2022, putting him behind the Reds’ top winner.
As has been shown frequently in the past, players are happy to continue with existing deals if they feel it makes sense for the club. And despite his unfortunateness, he sees a good character and Diaz who keeps giving him everything. They will only consider selling if their ratings are met.
If Diaz goes, then Real Madrid forward Rodrigo’s move cannot be ruled out. The Spanish publication, which grew in Liverpool’s interest in Brazilians on Wednesday, will be another spectacular addition this summer.
The 24-year-old is one of the players who have been on Liverpool’s list for years and has decided to stay in Brazil with Santos after joining the Reds in 2017 for just £2.5 million.
As far as it says, “the first step has been laid,” Liverpool will send delegations to Madrid in the coming days, but any deal is expensive to try.
Other major potential Liverpool coming in will remain Mark Nguye, and the Reds appear to be happy to play the waiting game with Crystal Palace Captain. Liverpool is still looking to trade for around £40 million, and the palace is still looking for more.
As Miller Football revealed on Tuesday, Ibrahima Konate turned down interest from the Saudi Arabian professional league, but his contract has no movement left. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are keeping an eye on the situation this summer, but if he doesn’t start the season as a Liverpool player, that’s a surprise.
