Coby Mainu has committed his future to Manchester United after putting pen to paper on a new five-year contract at Old Trafford after a stunning reversal of fortunes under manager Michael Carrick.
Koby Mainu has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United, committing his future to the club. The Red Devils academy graduate’s contract was due to expire next summer, but he has now put pen to paper for a new deal until 2031.
Mainu’s new contract includes a significant increase in salary and puts an end to speculation about his future at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old had been linked with a move away from the club after falling out of favor under former manager Ruben Amorim.
Premier League rivals Chelsea were also thought to be pursuing the midfielder, while Italian side Napoli have also shown an interest in him. However, Mainu subsequently committed his future to United, starting under manager Michael Carrick.
After the new contract was decided, Coach Mainu said: “Manchester United has always been my home. This special club means everything to my family.
“I have grown up watching the impact the club has on the city and I enjoy the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt.

“It has been an incredible journey so far, from The Cliff to Lyttleton Road, Carrington and finally Old Trafford. I have the privilege of living my dream every day, just as I did when I attended my first training session at the age of six, with a constant desire to succeed here.”
“We can all feel the momentum building within the club and I am determined to step up and do my part to help Manchester United compete regularly for major trophies over the next few years.”
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s director of football, added: “Coby is one of the most naturally talented young soccer players in the world.
“His technical ability, dedicated professionalism and humble personality make him the perfect role model for our young players and a true credit to our excellent academy system.
“We are delighted that Coby has extended his stay here and have full confidence that he has developed into one of the best players in the world and is ready to play a central role in a Manchester United team that challenges for the biggest honours.”
Mainu made his debut for United in the 2022/23 season in the Carabao Cup against Charlton Athletic. Since then, he has played 98 games for the club and scored 7 goals, some of which were important goals.
In last season’s dramatic Europa League victory over Lyon, Mainou scored a late equalizer, followed by Harry Maguire’s winner just a minute later. He also scored the winning goal in stoppage time in a 4-3 win against Wolves in 2024.
His most memorable goal was probably his goal against Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup final.
Mainoo and his United teammates are scheduled to return to action this weekend when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford. With a win, Carrick’s team will qualify for the Champions League.
