The 33-year-old was emotional as he trudged off the pitch with the help of a physiotherapist, complaining of a hamstring problem. Recent reports from Egypt suggest that the player will be sidelined until this summer’s World Cup, when he will represent his country in North America.

However, Liverpool have now announced that such claims are premature, with Salah undergoing further tests and the club optimistic he will play before the end of the season approaches.

“Liverpool FC can confirm that Mohamed Salah is expected to be able to play again before the end of this season. The number 11 came on as a substitute in the second half of last Saturday’s Premier League victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield,” they wrote.

“It has now been confirmed that the issue that caused his absence was a minor muscle injury. However, Salah is expected to return at the end of the 2025-26 season and ahead of his departure from the Reds this summer.”

Egyptian national team coach Ibrahim Hassan previously said Salah would need four weeks of treatment and would be ruled out of Liverpool’s remaining four games.

“He has injured his hamstring and will need four weeks of treatment,” Hassan told Reuters. “I don’t know (about playing for Liverpool again), that’s the best answer I can give.

“We might have a chance, but we just don’t know. What we do know is that the season ends in four or five weeks, so there aren’t that many games, so we’ll have to wait and see.”

“But Mo has taken care of his body all these years, so the time he needs to recover will be minimal. Let’s hope for the best.”

Speaking after the win against Palace, Slott said: “Another win, another injury. That’s the story of our season. It’s too early to say, but we all know how hard it is to have Mo off the pitch. Mo leaving the pitch shows something, but we’ll have to wait and see how bad it is.”

Liverpool’s head coach is set to provide another update on Salah ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United.
