Manchester United aim to return to the Champions League, but Bruno Fernandes’ future remains in doubt after doubts last summer
Teddy Sheringham believes Morgan Gibbs-White would be the ideal replacement for Bruno Fernandes if he leaves Manchester United.
United captain Fernandes’ future remains uncertain ahead of next season. Fernandes rejected an offer from the Saudi Pro League last summer, choosing to remain at Old Trafford.
However, the Portugal international is expected to be flooded with offers again towards the end of the season. United bosses are under huge pressure to hand the midfielder a new and improved contract.
And if Fernandes were to leave United, former Old Trafford favorite Sheringham believes England and Nottingham Forest star Gibbs-White would be his successor.

Sheringham told Oddschecker: “I think it’s probably Morgan Gibbs-White. I think Tottenham were able to get him when they tried to sign him at the end of last season.”
“At the time I was very excited about that prospect at Tottenham. He’s a player who plays with real grit and wants to show people what he can do on the pitch. He’s also got a very good engine. I think his desire to become a better player is there for everyone to see and I think he’ll go to a bigger club.”
“He will fit in well with the United players there.”
Meanwhile, Sheringham, who helped United win the Champions League treble in 1999, wants his former club to appoint Michael Carrick as permanent manager. He added: “I’ll be happy for Michael Carrick, he’s had a revelation since he’s been there.
“I think it’s rubbish to say he’s the same as Ole! To be honest, I can’t think of anyone else Manchester United could sign.
“He’s got the club in a very good position now and after the circumstances in which he arrived, their play has been excellent.”
