Tottenham Hotspur have suffered what could be yet another major injury setback as they battle to retain their Premier League status. Spurs currently sit 18th in the table and have four games left to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Roberto De Zerbi celebrated his first win as Tottenham manager with a 1-0 win away at Wolves at the weekend, but he faces fresh injury worries after picking up three points. The Telegraph reports that Dominic Solanke has suffered a hamstring injury and could miss the rest of the season.

Solanke was withdrawn with injury during the win over Wolves and was replaced by Richarlison, but it now appears Solanke could be facing a long road to recovery.

As a result, even if Solanke is sidelined for just three weeks, he will miss out on a significant part of Tottenham’s bid to avoid relegation.

If Solanke is sidelined for eight weeks, he will miss all of Tottenham’s remaining games, raising serious doubts about his place in Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad.

The news about Solanke comes after it was confirmed that Xavi Simmons suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Tottenham’s win over Wolves and will need several months to recover.

Cristian Romero will also miss the rest of the season due to injury, while Dejan Kulusevski, Mohamed Kudus, Wilson Odbert and Ben Davies remain long-term absentees.

Tottenham return to Premier League action this weekend when they take on Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon and will be hoping to bring back several players from the injured list.

Guglielmo Vicario is recovering from hernia surgery, while Papu Matar Sarr missed Tottenham’s win over Wolves with a shoulder problem. Destiny Oudogie also missed the trip to Molineux due to a muscle injury, but could be in line to feature for Spurs at the weekend.

De Zerbi is expected to provide an update on the fitness status of Solanke and the rest of Tottenham’s squad when he speaks to the media later in the week ahead of the game against Villa.

Tottenham have four games remaining to ensure they remain in the Premier League, but with so few games left they are in 18th place, just two points behind.

After facing Villa, Spurs have three remaining games against Leeds United (May 11), Chelsea (May 19) and Everton (May 24).
