Harry Kane will lead Bayern Munich to a juicy Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain, but the German giants are keen to sign him to a new contract
Harry Kane, who has always insisted that individual milestones take precedence over team achievements, has never been shy about celebrating individual awards.
Despite Tottenham Hotspur finishing seventh in the table, Kane won the Premier League’s Golden Boot and Playmaker awards (most assists) in 2020/21, winning both trophies during his break. I posted a photo taken by the pool.
During the 2018 Christmas season, Kane, like many footballers, showed off his Christmas tree on social media. Only Kane’s was not decorated with stars and angels, and featured the Golden Boot he won at the 2018 World Cup.
All of them are wonderful. But no one believes Kane when he says his team’s thirst for trophies is his main driving force.

He now has two Bundesliga winners’ medals while on vacation, but winning the Champions League would be the best moment of his career. Remember 2019? Kane was injured in early April during Spurs’ quarter-final first leg against Manchester City, but almost returned for the final against Liverpool on June 1st.
He lost 2-0 and fell into obscurity. It will still hurt. Seven years later, Kane is fundamental to Bayern’s Champions League hopes and, of course, England’s World Cup hopes.
And the good news for club and country is that with just three months to his 33rd birthday, Kane’s form is improving. This verdict is not only based on statistics, but the statistics are very impressive.
He played in 51 games for the club last season and scored 41 goals. This season, he has played in 45 games and scored 53 goals. Just to be clear, he had 14 assists last season and has six this season.
But while the numbers don’t lie, they don’t tell the whole story. Watch the Bayern match to get the full story.
And it’s that Kane looks smarter than ever, sharper than ever, more intelligent than ever, and healthier than ever. No wonder Bayern, who are in Paris for the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday night, want to sign him to a new contract and keep him in Munich beyond the summer of 2027, when his current deal ends.
Kane is clearly enjoying his time there, but perhaps the most likely course for him to plan is to stay for another season and return to the Premier League at the end of his contract. Because those personal milestones matter.
If he returns next summer, he will be 34 years old at the start of the 2027-28 Premier League season and will be confident that he can play in the top flight for at least four years. Former Bayern Munich great Robert Lewandowski, who turns 38 in August, scored twice for Barcelona on his 34th birthday and has scored a further 116 goals since then.
Kane could spend one more season in Munich before returning to England in 2027 and breaking the Premier League goalscoring record. He currently falls short of Alan Shearer’s mark of 260×47, but that will be on the back burner for now.
His next personal accomplishment will be one of the most prestigious in the game. His performance against PSG will be the start of his Ballon d’Or audition. It should be a great watch.
