Tottenham’s match against Chelsea will be rescheduled as the Blues have reached the FA Cup final, leaving the possibility of them being relegated at Stamford Bridge if the result goes against them.

Tottenham’s penultimate Premier League game of the season against Chelsea will have to be rescheduled after the Blues booked their place in the FA Cup final, potentially putting the North Londoners in a life-or-death situation.

The two teams were due to meet at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, May 17, but the FA Cup final was the day before, with the west London side due to face Manchester City at Wembley. They and Tottenham therefore have until the final day of the season, Sunday May 24, to find a new date.

The date for the rescheduled match between Tottenham and Chelsea will be announced soon, but it is likely to take place after the FA Cup final. Tottenham themselves will play Leeds at home on Monday 11th May, making it almost impossible for them to play a game midweek.

If Tottenham are rescheduled for the final day, when they play Everton at home, they would face relegation rivals West Ham after they play Newcastle at St James’ Park.

This means Tottenham, who are already two points behind the Hammers, will have to respond to West Ham’s result and could be relegated if they don’t win against Chelsea.

It adds even more spice to a match that has previously been simmering with tension. It was in 2016 that Tottenham drew with the Blues, missing out on the title and Leicester’s crown. They led 2-0 that night but conceded twice as anger erupted after Tottenham received a record nine yellow cards.

Tottenham have four games left in the season, so they travel to Aston Villa this weekend before facing Leeds. On Saturday, they narrowly edged out relegated Wolves, with Joao Parinha scoring the winning goal in the second half, to secure their first league win of 2026.

The blow for Tottenham was a stoppage-time blow for West Ham, who earned three points against Everton at home. Roberto de Zerbi’s side now have 34 points, two behind the Hammers. Nottingham Forest’s convincing win on Friday left them five points behind the North Londoners.

De Zerbi said after the win at Molineux: “I’m happy with this result. I hope this result can change something in our heads and our mentality for other results. It’s already very difficult for us to win games. If we bow to other teams, it will be too difficult for me.”
