Liverpool fans continued their protest against soaring ticket prices and showed the owner a yellow card. During the match against Crystal Palace, Anfield supporters held aloft yellow papers and shouted: “Enough is enough, greedy bastards.”

The Premier League champions are looking to increase general ticket prices each year for the next three seasons. The decision infuriated supporters who said the price increases were unprecedented and left no room for negotiation.

Liverpool are open to discussions with fans as inflation relates to prices and say they are happy to discuss the issue with supporters. Anfield’s operating costs are said to have increased by 85 per cent, while adult general admission season tickets have increased in price to £1.42 per match.

Supporter organizations including Spirit of Shankly, Spion Kop 1906, Kop Out (LFC LGBTQ+ supporters group), Culture Red (faith and ethnic supporters group), LFC Women’s Supporters Club and multiple branches of the official Liverpool Supporters Club co-ordinated the activity, with cards being distributed around Anfield before the match.

The move resulted in him being shown a yellow card in the 13th minute of the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. Liverpool postponed their protests during their Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain due to the approaching anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, but Saturday’s (April 25) protests increased following the initial protests against Fulham.

Election cars were deployed outside Liverpool’s training ground and around the city on Friday ahead of the showdown with Oliver Glasner’s side.

A spokesperson for the campaign said: “This is about the future of Liverpool Football Club and who will be a part of it. Locking in price increases for three years removes accountability and sets a dangerous precedent not just here but across the Premier League.”

“This is not ‘some fans’. This is hundreds of thousands of supporters making their voices heard. On Saturday, we are calling on everyone in and around Anfield to show FSG a yellow card.”

“As long as I’ve been in football there’s been disagreements, but it’s always about those who have the best interests of the club,” head coach Arne Slott said ahead of Saturday’s clash with Palace, who have beaten Liverpool three times this season.

“Two weeks ago there were protests and we felt we had the full support of the fans. Now we need the support of the fans.”

After a slow start, the Reds took a two-goal lead in the first half and improved their momentum. Alexander Isaac, making his first Premier League start at Anfield since returning from injury, scored the goal, and Andy Robertson headed home shortly after a brilliantly reflexive save from Freddie Woodman at the other end.

Liverpool needed to continue their good form after beating Everton last time out. Slott’s team were looking to create a buffer against the Seagulls, as Chelsea had lost their previous match against Brighton.

Fabian Hürzeler’s side are now within five points of Liverpool, but a win would see them level with Aston Villa on the number of games played.
