West Bromwich Albion receive a two-point deduction for breaching the English Football League’s profitability and sustainability regulations, dropping them two places in the Championship.
Mirror Sport explains updated Championship table after West Bromwich Albion point deduction…
West Bromwich Albion have dropped from 18th to 20th in the updated Championship table due to a two point deduction. Although they are level on points with Charlton Athletic in 21st place, they have a four-point lead and are six points clear of the relegation zone. With only two games remaining, it is mathematically no longer safe to be relegated to League One. One more point would be enough to secure a spot in the second division. Failing that, it would be good for them if Charlton lost both games or Oxford United failed to win each game. West Brom host Ipswich Town at lunchtime on Saturday, while Charlton host Hull City in south London at the same time. Oxford will also face relegation-bound Sheffield at home at 3pm on Wednesday after their rivals’ match. And on the final day, Albion play on Wednesday, while Charlton visit Swansea City. Meanwhile, Oxford visit Millwall, with all Championship matches kicking off at 12.30pm next Saturday. A two point deduction will not give Leicester City any reprieve. After receiving their own points deduction earlier this season, they are still seven points behind West Brom with just six points remaining. West Brom can also appeal this decision. An appeal must be filed within two weeks of receiving a complete written reason, but cannot be appealed immediately. “For now, we will settle the matter on the pitch,” they said in a statement.
