Manchester United are reportedly considering signing Tottenham star Micky van de Ven, who is also said to be a target of Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Despite interest from Manchester United, Liverpool will be Micky van de Ven’s preferred destination if he leaves Tottenham. Van de Ven, 25, is thinking about his future after three years at Spurs, who are fighting to avoid a shock relegation to the Championship.
The Dutch international made a good first impression when he joined from German side Wolfsburg for £43 million. His speed and left-footed ball-playing ability quickly made him one of the Premier League’s most coveted centre-backs, but his second season was interrupted by a series of hamstring injuries.
Van de Ven has missed just one game through injury this season, Tottenham’s worst season in recent history, and remains a top target for some of England’s elite clubs. But the bad news for United is that, according to talkSPORT, Van de Ven would turn down a move to Old Trafford if a move to Liverpool was also on the table.
However, his departure from Spurs is not guaranteed. He added that Van de Ven could extend his stay in north London if Roberto de Zerbi’s side avoid relegation, especially if Tottenham sell captain Cristian Romero, who has been linked with Atletico Madrid.

Both United and Liverpool are expected to be in the market for a central defender. United’s current centre-back crisis highlights concerns about the squad’s depth as they prepare to return to European football next season.
Matthijs de Ligt has been sidelined since November, with Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire also prone to injuries. The situation is similar for Liverpool.
Ibrahima Konate’s contract expires at the end of this season, but he is expected to sign a new deal, while Giovanni Leoni, who joined in the summer, has only played in one game due to a serious knee injury. The only other confirmed centre-backs, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, are expected to have their contracts expire in 2027.

Liverpool have already signed two centre-backs for the summer. Jeremy Jacquet, a 20-year-old from Rennes, and Ifeanyi Ndukwe, an 18-year-old star player from Vienna, Austria. However, manager Arne Slott may want a more senior player who could replace Van Dijk.
As for United, they have to decide how much to spend on a defender, and van de Ven’s signing is likely to exceed what Tottenham paid for him in 2023. The Red Devils are looking to sign at least one midfielder, while also hoping to sign an experienced striker and potentially a new back-up goalkeeper.
