Enzo Fernandes has endured a difficult season at Chelsea, but the Argentine is now attracting the attention of one of the Blues’ Premier League rivals in what could be a surprising move.
Manchester City are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandes despite a turbulent season. The Argentine midfielder has endured a difficult season at Stamford Bridge.
Fernandes, 25, has had an outstanding year in front of goal, scoring 12 goals in all competitions. However, he was recently suspended within the company for comments he made about a potential move to Real Madrid.
And although he is currently suspended, the former Benfica star is currently rumored to be in a relationship with one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals. According to The Athletic, Man City are considering a move to strengthen their midfield options following the departure of Bernardo Silva.
City’s interest is said to be at an early stage, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson also praised at the Etihad Stadium. Fernandes joined Chelsea from Benfica for a fee of £106 million and went on to make 163 appearances for the west London club.

However, he has come under fire in recent weeks, with manager Tim Sherwood criticizing his performance against Brighton. He said: “He wanted to make the show, but he’s not the person I wanted to see wearing the armband.
“He wants to leave the club. He stands there with his chest held high and when the game starts, he makes the stands, he makes his mates, he makes the stands, he does something about it, he leads the players, you are an individual who plays for himself.”
“Maybe he’s talking to the coaching staff trying to blame everyone around him. That’s not what a leader does. They make sure they’re energizing their teammates and organizing their teammates. When he’s on that pitch, he has to know what Liam Rosenior wants and he has to try to implement that on the pitch for the manager.”
Rosenior was sacked after the game, with the former Strasbourg head coach deciding his time at Chelsea was over after just four months. Fernandes’ contract with Chelsea runs until 2032, but his agent Javier Pastore recently revealed that negotiations are underway to extend his contract with Stamford Bridge.
He also admitted that if no agreement is found after the World Cup, he may be forced to look elsewhere. Real Madrid are certainly fans, but it remains to be seen whether the Spanish side will pursue a move this summer.
