Bruno Fernandes’ contract at Old Trafford runs until 2027 and Manchester United bosses have made a final decision on signing the Portuguese playmaker.

Manchester United have firmly ruled out selling captain Bruno Fernandes this summer. The Portuguese captain has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford and has been regularly linked with a possible departure.

Fernandes also has fans in Saudi Arabia, where the Red Devils have been happy to capitalize on his exploits. Although he was eventually persuaded to stay at the club, it seems unlikely that he will leave this time.

According to The Sun, club leaders have told Fernandes they do not want him to leave under any circumstances. They have told the 31-year-old they want him to be a central part of a successful United team and believe qualifying for the Champions League will go a long way in convincing him to stay.

Fernandes’ current contract includes a €65m (approximately £56.5m) release clause that can be triggered by overseas clubs. His contract runs until 2027, but there is an option for further campaigns.

United leaders were caught off guard by the midfielder’s admission in an interview in December that he was “hurt” by the club’s stance on selling him.

“I could have quit, like many people do, and said, “I want to quit, I don’t want to train, I just want to quit for 20 million or 30 million euros, and then they’ll pay me more,” he said. But I didn’t do that. I was never in a position to do that because I felt the same empathy and love that I had for the club.

“But there comes a point when money is more important to them than anything else. The club wanted me to leave, that’s what I think in my head. I told the managers about this, but I don’t think they had the courage to make that decision.”

“I decided to stay because of family reasons, but also because I genuinely liked the club. I also had a conversation with the manager, and I decided to stay. But from the club’s perspective, I felt a little bit like, ‘If you leave, it wouldn’t be that bad for us.'” It hurt a lot.

“Rather than hurt, it makes me sad because I’m not the kind of player that they criticize. I’m always ready, I always play, good or bad. I’m giving my all. And when you look at the situation around you, there are players who don’t value the club as much and don’t protect the club as much… It makes you sad.”

Fernandes has since stressed his happiness in life in Manchester amid a sensational season. The former Sporting Lisbon star has been a key player under manager Michael Carrick, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists in all competitions this season.
