Jamie Carragher believes Arne Slott will remain at Liverpool if they qualify for next season’s Champions League. The Reds currently sit in fifth place, seven points ahead of Chelsea and the final spot for next season.
They beat Everton in the first Merseyside derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and followed up Manchester United’s victory at Stamford Bridge with a further step against the Blues. It also served to further dampen ongoing speculation surrounding Slott’s position.
Back-to-back Premier League wins shifted the momentum, as did an encouraging performance at Anfield despite a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

It seems certain that they will qualify for the Champions League for the third consecutive season. After an impressive first season, this could protect Slott’s place beyond this summer, despite a lackluster defense of the Premier League title.
“The Arn Slott job has been talked about all season and we’ve talked about it a number of times on Monday Night Football,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“There’s probably a difference of opinion among Liverpool supporters as to whether he should stay or go, but the noise I’m hearing is that Slott will be Liverpool manager next season if we qualify for the Champions League. They’re going to do it now.”

Speaking about the derby win, Carragher added: “This is an absolutely huge result for Liverpool considering the result against Chelsea yesterday.”
Regardless of how Chelsea or any of the teams below them perform, the Reds need nine more points from their remaining five Premier League games to secure a top-five finish. Their next action will be when they welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield, before taking on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Chelsea then head to Anfield for what could be a decisive match to decide fifth place. Aston Villa are the penultimate opponents of the season, with Brentford visiting Merseyside on the final day.
Carragher also commented after the derby: “If that board had been up for 11 minutes, from Liverpool’s point of view they would have been able to shake hands with anyone and score. Everton were a bit more of a threat because of the goalkeeping situation. At the end of that game, Liverpool were a small team so they were afraid of set-pieces.”
“If you look at how Liverpool won this game, two of the club’s absolute legends did it, but Salah and maybe in 12 months Van Dijk won’t be here for long.
“Two absolute greats. Salah did it again, as always, against Liverpool’s biggest rivals. You can always count on him, whether it’s against Everton or Man United.”
