Jurgen Klinsmann’s son Jonathan is currently part of a trade with Serie B side Cesena, but the American international suffered a serious injury in the match against Palermo over the weekend.

Jurgen Klinsmann’s son Jonathan broke his neck in a horrific collision during the Cesena match. Klinsmann Jr., 29, signed with the Italian team in 2024 after spending two years with LA Galaxy.
Since then, he has become a regular for the Serie B team and was once again in goal for Cesena against Palermo at the weekend.
However, his afternoon was cut short after a violent collision forced him to leave the pitch and be rushed to hospital. Cesena coach Ashley Cole said after the match: “What is Klinsmann’s condition?He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
“He has a cut on the back of his head and is being treated by medical staff who have reassured us of his general condition. We await an update once medical checks are complete.”
Further tests at the hospital confirmed that Klinsmann had suffered a fractured neck. Cesena said in a statement: “Jonathan Klinsmann suffered lacerations and bruises to the head and injuries to his cervical spine following an incident during the final minutes of the match between Palermo FC and Cesena FC.

“As a result of the tests carried out, a fracture at the level of the first cervical vertebra was detected. The Bianconeri goalkeeper will undergo further tests and see a specialist neurosurgeon.”
Meanwhile, Klinsmann’s agent Marco De Marchi provided a worrying update. “The road to recovery will be long,” he told reporters.
Klinsmann started his professional career with Hertha Berlin, but made just one appearance for the German team before joining Swiss side St. Gallen. He spent just one year with the club before moving to the United States with LA Galaxy.

Klinsmann eventually joined Cesena on a free transfer in 2024 and has so far made 66 appearances in all competitions for the Italian team. He has also been working hard in the USMNT age group and was called up to the first team for the first time by former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino last year, but has yet to make his international debut.
Cesena will have to end the season without their first-choice goalkeeper. Cole’s side currently sit eighth in Serie B with three games remaining in the season.
The former Chelsea defender was appointed as the club’s new manager last month but has only won one of his five games in charge so far.
