Arsenal reportedly became muscular to poach the highly regarded young striker from under Liverpool’s nose. The Reds were in pole position to sign Will Wright from Salford City after making an offer for League 2 club.

However, Liverpool accepted the defeat in the race of the 17-year-old striker after Arsenal Gazamped them. Wright has attracted attention from Manchester City, Brentford, Leicester City and Burnley.

The 6-foot-3-inch striker has been burning in the preseason with over 50 goals at all levels at Salford last season. He friendlyly scored four goals in the friendship on the side of Carl Robinson after appearing in the first team four times last season.

But now, his future appears to be separate from the club owned by Gary Neville and David Beckham. Sun reports that Arsenal has submitted a bid for Wright £250,000 and an add-on worth the bid.

They are sure Liverpool is only offering add-ons of around £100,000 and so is enough to land young strikers.

Liverpool Echo says Liverpool is now away from trading and, although things are at a lower level, it’s similar to Martin Zubimendi’s situation. Zubimendi joined the gunner on a £51 million move this summer after a similar move to Liverpool collapsed last summer.

Salford’s manager, Robinson, is well aware of the talent he has on his team in the form of Wright. He sang praise after scoring both goals in a 2-2 draw with FC United in Manchester.

“He’s on top,” he said. “He’s a local young man and someone we’re incredibly proud of, and he showed all his qualities today… he’s certainly a goal scorer and for that, we’re definitely looking at it every day.”

Wright, meanwhile, enjoys the opportunity to play regularly in advance in the preseason. “I feel good, I’m ready. For all of us, it’s a great opportunity,” he said recently. “We train with our first team, and we even play the game.

“You can get the opportunity and experience and get things back to the B-Team and the academy where we can influence them and hopefully bring in more and more people, bring in more people, and get more debuts.”

Wright could enter the Arsenal Under 21S if he joins the North London side. The Preston-born forward is now in his second year on a scholarship with Salford, and was spotted playing for his hometown of Euxton Villa and Fild just two years ago.

The relocation fee will be given as a boost to Salford, who has been stuck in League 2 since his promotion from the National League in 2019.
