Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadashvili was out stretching after colliding with Beto during the Everton striker’s goal in the Merseyside derby as the winners equalized in the second half.
Arne Slott has confirmed that Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadashvili suffered a serious injury during the Merseyside derby and went straight to hospital. Mamadashvili, 25, had to be carried off on a stretcher during the second half of Sunday’s dramatic 2-1 win away to Everton.
As the Everton striker slipped in to equalize, the Georgian collided with Beto, canceling out Mo Salah’s opening goal. Freddie Woodman replaces Mamadashvili, who will be making his Premier League debut for the Reds, and with number one Alisson already suffering an injury, Liverpool’s third choice is expected to start next Saturday at home to Crystal Palace.
“It didn’t look good,” Slott told Match of the Day when asked about Mamadashvili’s injury. “He went straight to the hospital because it was a big wound. Let’s wait and see. But we fear the worst. It’s not a long-term injury, it’s only for next week.”
Alisson is expected to return for the final few games of the season and with Van Dijk’s 100th-minute winning goal, there is a good chance that they would have qualified for the Champions League by the time he returns. “We’re hopeful that he’ll be in good shape towards the end of the season,” Slott said earlier this month.

Apart from the Mamadashvili incident, there were other joys in the derby for Liverpool. “I’m going to have fun,” Slott said with a big smile. “The staff, the players and myself.
“There is no difference between us and the fans. We wanted to have a better season than we have had so far, but for obvious reasons we couldn’t do that and we saw that today.”
“How many times have two goalkeepers been injured? That was our season, but we managed to win and that’s the most important thing.”

Title holders Liverpool will be without a trophy this season, but Van Dijk’s victory will be remembered as a bright spot, even more so than his difficult season at Anfield. “It’s no exaggeration to say it’s been a tough season,” said Van Dijk.
“We were very poor, which is what we are used to and what we should expect from Liverpool. We have five games left and we have to give our all to at least qualify for the Champions League.”
“We have to do better in every way next year. That’s the reality. We have five games left and we have to give it our all.”
