Cole Palmer’s future has been a hot topic in recent months amid rumors of a move to his boyhood club Manchester United, but now the Chelsea star has broken his silence.

Cole Palmer says he has “no plans” to leave Chelsea, defying Manchester United’s hopes of signing him. Palmer, 23, was reportedly unsettled in west London during his third season with the Blues.

Enzo Maresca’s surprise departure as manager in January has thrown the England international’s future into further doubt, with Chelsea currently falling to sixth place in the Premier League under new manager Liam Rosenior. Although Palmer grew up supporting United, he was a product of rivals Manchester City’s academy and was sold to Chelsea in September 2023 for £42.5m.

Ahead of the Blues’ crucial home game against United on Saturday, the manager poured cold water on the speculation. “Everyone just talks,” Palmer told the Guardian. “When I see that, I just laugh.

“Obviously, Manchester is my home. My whole family is there, but I don’t miss Manchester. Maybe if I didn’t go for three months or so, I would miss Manchester. But when I get home, I don’t think there’s anything there for me anyway.”

Palmer, who is tied to Stamford Bridge on a lucrative contract that runs until 2033, said: “I have no plans to move from Chelsea. We still have a lot to play for.

“We have an FA Cup semi-final (against Leeds) and if we finish in the Champions League we will be in a good position to sign the players we need.”

The 23-year-old went on to reveal that he has held discussions with Chelsea’s owners and is confident that the way the club is run – signing young players, changing managers frequently and signing long-term contracts – will succeed after years of criticism. Palmer pointed to captain Reece James’ new six-year contract as an example of the belief coming from within the dressing room.

“We have spoken to the owners and they are confident that the players will do it,” he asserted. “Reese won’t sign a six-year contract without talking to the owner and director.

“Me and Reese talked a lot about what we need, the players we need to sign and how things should be. If he doesn’t know what’s going on, he won’t sign a new contract.”

Chelsea go into Saturday’s clash seven points behind United. Liverpool go into the weekend with a four-point advantage, so even a win would not be enough to move them into fifth place.
