West Ham star Lucas Paketa has been waiting a month to discover the verdict of the FA’s two-year investigation into alleged violations of the betting rules
Lucas Paketa is set to be cleared by the free agency following a two-year investigation into alleged bets against him as the West United star is about to file accusations behind him.
The 27-year-old faced the threat of a long-term ban. This may have seen his career end after he was charged with the free agency. The Times is currently reporting that the player has been cleared by an independent regulatory commission – there is a decision to be announced next week.
The FA could also face the prospect of gaining costs for Paqueta’s legal fees. This totals £1 million. The Hammers star was investigated by the British football governing body for allegedly violating the rules of betting, but despite hearings in March and ending in June, he has been waiting for results up to now.
The FA began an investigation in August 2023 following allegations that West Ham playmakers were involved in the attack in four Premier League matches between November 2022 and August 2023. He was formally indicted in May 2024.
Although Paketa did not make his own bets, it is said that he made a profit after his Brazilian friends and family bet on yellow cards for the midfielder. The yellow card in question was against Leicester in November 2022, Aston Villa in March 2023, Leeds in May 2023, and Bournemouth in August 2023.

At the time the FA charged him, Paketa had deliberately sought to affect the progress, actions or occurrence of these matches, hoping to influence the progress, actions or occurrence of these matches, with one or more people intentionally asking them to receive cards from the judge for the inappropriate purpose of affecting the betting market in order to make a profit from the betting.” He was also charged with failing to comply with their investigation.
However, Paqueta said at the time:
“I will deny the entire accusation and clear my name to fight with all breaths. Due to the ongoing process, I will not provide any further comments.”
While Paketa was previously linked to a favorable move for Manchester City, the uncertainty surrounding his future is believed to have played a lingering role in West Ham. The playmaker also saw his form fall while he dealt with the accusations.
