Tottenham are reportedly in talks to sign Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, whose contract expires at the end of the season. The Argentine has impressed for Andoni Iraola’s side and will leave the Vitality Stadium with him at the end of the season.
Senesi joined Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022 but has resisted the Cherries’ best efforts to force him to sign a new contract. Instead, he appears to be considering a move to another Premier League club, with Tottenham emerging as the frontrunner.
The paper also claims that any deal for Senesi will depend on Tottenham maintaining their place in the Premier League. Roberto de Zerbi is the latest manager to parachute in to try to save Spurs’ season, but the north London side currently sit in the bottom three.
The 2025 Europa League winners will be back in contention to avoid a home defeat to De Zerbi’s old club Brighton when the sides meet in a tea-time kick-off on Saturday. West Ham face Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest face Burnley, so Spurs could find themselves in even more trouble if they don’t win their games in the capital.
The potential signing of Senesi casts doubt over the futures of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, with the former linked with a move from Spurs. The Argentina international may already have played his final game for the club, as Romero is likely to miss the rest of the season after sustaining an injury against Sunderland at the weekend.
Senesi, on the other hand, like Van de Ven, is a left-sided centre-half and while it would normally be desirable to have two options in each position, Spurs will not be competing in Europe next season. Therefore, minutes will be limited and it means Senesi may be difficult to convince to join if he does not come in as a first-choice option.
Tottenham are also said to be keeping an eye on Andy Robertson, who has announced that he is close to leaving Liverpool. But again, it all depends on whether Spurs can remain in the Premier League next season.
