This has significantly complicated matters for Michael Carrick, with Lisandro Martinez also facing a suspension for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair during Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Leeds. The United manager will be forced to reorganize his defensive options ahead of the crucial game at Stamford Bridge.
With six games left in the Premier League season, United will be hoping to pick up as many points as possible in order to qualify for Europe next season.
United are currently aiming to qualify for the Champions League and cannot afford to fall further behind. Express Sport has all the latest news originating from Old Trafford.
Possibility of first contract for Andoni Iraola
United have previously been linked with a Spanish manager, and there were also reports that the Cherries manager would welcome a move. If United appoint Iraola, they could tempt two of Bournemouth’s current players to follow him to Old Trafford. The Daily Mail claims that both Marcos Senesi and Eli Junior Crupi are “being considered” by the Manchester club.
Senesi is set to become a free agent in the summer, and would be relatively easy to acquire. However, Crupi is only 19 years old and is at Bournemouth until 2030.
Jadon Sancho has been told by manager Unai Emery that it is “premature” to consider staying at Aston Villa permanently. The on-loan United star scored four goals for Birmingham and is currently recovering from a shoulder injury.
But for now, the club is solely focused on the issues on the pitch. “We are 100 percent focused on our goals and there is no point in talking about individual futures,” Emery said.
Speaking specifically about Sancho, Emery added: “During the season, we discussed a lot with him and me, especially about his task for us, how we need his performance and his qualities.
“But now it’s about tomorrow. He’s coming back (from injury) and he’s a great player and he needs to be consistent.”
Commenting on Sancho’s absence, Emery said: “It’s unfortunate that he has been injured in the last few weeks, because he scored before the break, which is great. Now we are checking everything and playing to achieve our goals with everyone. Hopefully, we will give him the best, but this is also our challenge.”
