Bernardo Silva is widely expected to leave Manchester City in the summer, with Josep Guardiola giving the latest information he has on the midfielder’s situation.

Josep Guardiola has jokingly claimed that Bernardo Silva is furious that he did not inform him of his departure from Manchester City, but insisted that no decision has been made yet. City assistant Pep Lijnders hinted last week that Silva’s departure this summer was a foregone conclusion, but Guardiola suggested any announcement would come directly from the player himself.

Silva has considered leaving the club at various stages during his nine years at the club, but last season he was given the captaincy by Guardiola and focused on fulfilling the final year of his contract. He told reporters in September that he had reached a decision about next season, but most expected him to leave, but he has remained tight-lipped since then.

In his speech after the game against Liverpool, Lijnders appeared to accept his departure, with only six weeks remaining. Despite this, there was still no official announcement from either the club or the players, with Guardiola jokingly admitting that he was angry at his captain for completely silencing him.

“I’m very unhappy with Bernardo because a month ago I said, ‘If you’re going to make a decision, I have to be the first to know,’ and Bernardo hasn’t said anything yet,” the Manchester Evening News reported.

“I think the right person is Bernardo, but I don’t know if he has already decided. I jokingly said, ‘Tell me I deserve it,’ but he didn’t say that, so I don’t know what’s going on.

“It’s like a farewell press conference for Bernardo, but he didn’t tell me! Every manager he’s ever coached will tell you how much they love him, because he’s always thinking, he’s incredibly competitive, he’s got a fire inside, and he’s always there even in the toughest moments on the biggest stages.”

“What matters in big, big games is not whether you play well or badly, but about being yourself and not being afraid. Bernie had all these qualities from the first day he arrived from Monaco.

“He has made an incredible deal for us. I love this club so much that I would like him to stay here and finish his career, but he will make his decision when he makes his decision and announces it to the club, the media and everyone.”

“But he’s got a great contract with numbers, minutes and titles, especially when things are bad. That’s what defines me as a player when everything’s tough, when things are bad. He’s always stepped up and said I’m here to help.”
