Michael Carrick has made a huge impact at Manchester United since replacing Ruben Amorim and captain Bruno Fernandes reveals the differences between the two
Bruno Fernandes believes Michael Carrick has helped Manchester United find “a way to win” by replacing Ruben Amorim. The former Red Devils midfielder has made a huge impact at Old Trafford since taking over on an interim basis.
United moved into third place in the Premier League with seven wins from 10 games. When asked by Carrick what he had changed, United captain Fernandes replied that he had made his team understand how to end chances and ultimately get over the line.
“Obviously we change some things. He changes some players, some position players. He tried different formations. He tried different formations,” he told the Men in Blazers.
“And at the end of the day, we start scoring goals. I know we were creating a lot. We weren’t at the top when Ruben was here in terms of goal creation and chances, but we couldn’t finish it. We were probably one of the best teams at the time not letting teams get in the box.”

“But we were behind when we allowed teams to get into the box. We will concede more goals. We are starting to be more compact when defending. We understand that there will be moments where we have to suffer because they were not great moments.”
“And I think the sacrifices we made in the first few games were great. I wouldn’t say we were lucky, but it was good for us to have two big games right away.”
“Because I think if we win against City, we won’t have to play against Arsenal, who were top of the league and very difficult to play at the Emirates, so we can think, ‘Oh my God, we’re fine, we’re fine, we’re playing great football now, we’re going to win.’
“I think the game against City was our best game. We didn’t have the best game against Arsenal, but we did our best. We found a way to win the game. Sometimes big clubs have to find a way to win games. Whether it’s great or not, you have to find a way to get a result.”
Fernandes, 31, has been key to United’s turnaround under Carrick and has scored three goals and provided a further nine assists in the Premier League since his first game. The Portuguese playmaker has just one year left on his current contract but seems happy with life at Old Trafford.
“Obviously, when you’re in a place for this long, you feel like you’re part of that place. And obviously, I’m very proud of my country and I love my country. I love being there.”

“But obviously I feel at home in Manchester and the kids feel at home here too. It’s great for me to be in a place like Manchester where the kids have so much fun and feel like home.”
“I felt like a Manchenian until I heard the kids speaking English with an accent, but then I realized I wasn’t like them.”
