Arne Slott breaks his silence on Liverpool’s future following owner’s decision to sack him | Soccer | Sports

Just a year after leading Liverpool to Premier League glory, there has been speculation that Slott could be sacked at the end of the season. But the 47-year-old still believes he has the full support of the club’s hierarchy. Asked about his future at a press conference on Friday, he revealed he feels valued by those in power at Anfield.

“I’ve said many times that I feel a lot of support from the owners and from Richard (Hughes) and Michael (Edwards), but I know it sounds strange, but I also feel the support from the fans,” Slott said.

“As we were walking around Paris before the game, the fans[who saw us]started singing ‘I love Liverpool’, even though we had just lost 4-0 to City.

“Even after we were behind for 90 minutes, they sang for us in the away end. We have always felt that support. The club knows the period we are in and I have their full support during this time.”

They will have the chance to secure a win against Fulham on Saturday night, ahead of next week’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against PSG.

Slott also spoke about Andy Robertson, who was confirmed to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The defender has been reduced to a back-up role for much of this season, with Milos Kerkes taking over as Liverpool’s first-choice right-back.

“He had a lot of great seasons here as a player, but I think people got to know him as a great person as well,” Slott said.

“I’ve gotten to know him. All of my teammates will tell you how funny he is and what a great person he is, and it shows well on social media. What I remember most about him is the enthusiasm he always had to play with.”

“We learned something about strength two days ago, but a few years ago Lobo was able to press from left-back to right-back and he showed that to the players he was training with at the time.

“He has won everything here and he really loves this club. His nine years at the club have been great, but this season he has found that he has not been able to play as well as before and as a result he will be leaving.”

“It’s difficult to stay in a position for longer than a season. Every player wants as much regular first-team football as possible.”
