Jurgen Klopp left Liverpool in May 2024 after nine years in charge, but the German remains popular with Anfield fans.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has warmly looked back on his trophy-winning days with the club and expressed his gratitude to Liverpool supporters for their support during his nine years at Anfield.
The former Reds manager was in charge for nearly a decade before retiring in May 2024, winning every major accolade for the club, including their first league title in 30 years in 2020 and the Champions League the year before.
Klopp has forged a special connection with the club’s global fans during his time on Merseyside, and recently returned to the club to a rapturous reception as Liverpool Legends drew 2-2 with their Borussia Dortmund counterparts in an LFC Foundation benefit match at Anfield.
Klopp, who is an honorary ambassador for the foundation, spoke to former Reds striker Peter Crouch on a podcast published on Wednesday morning, where the legendary former manager revealed what his fans still hold dear to him.

“I mean, we had a good time and no one needs to say thank you to me, that’s what I hear a lot,” Klopp said.
“Because for the exact same reason, I have to say thank you. Every time I meet people, I say, ‘Oh, thank you, for supporting us all these years.’
“So, all we needed was what we went through and that was our life. We tried to do everything to be as successful as possible, and sometimes it worked out and sometimes it didn’t.
“We made big mistakes, we made momentary mistakes, but the truth is, this is what I always wanted to look back on when I was older and smile.

“I don’t think anyone will look back on the last nine years without smiling, because it was truly amazing. Everything about it and how connected we were.
“So I 100 percent understand why people are happy when they see me because I support this era. And I’m just as happy as them when I see them because they support this era.
“And when I met the kids yesterday at Anfield Community Center who were 10 years old,[saying]‘I love you more than my dad!’ And when I arrived, they were two or one or not even born yet!”
The German, who is currently Red Bull’s head of world football, believes he has been able to transform Liverpool because he has been given enough time to develop and strengthen the squad since taking over as manager from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.

Klopp added: “Everything takes time. In life and in football, no one gives you time. We were fortunate to be able to take immediate action so that everyone knew we were moving in the right direction.”
“We were able to play, but it took us a while to win games in the beginning. We drew at home to West Brom and celebrated as if we had won the World Championship. Everything has to develop, it has to grow and that’s what we did.”
“The players have been great, but to win the Premier League you need special players and we’ve been using the money we’ve made from other transfers to bring them in step-by-step each year.
“I would have liked to have played a full season with Philippe Coutinho, Bobby Firmino, Sadio (Mane) and Mo (Salah). Wow. There were some games where we looked really good and we had an idea that it would work and we all know what happened.”
