Steven Gerrard has given his opinion on Liverpool’s form this season and what the club should do to replace Mohamed Salagh.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard wants the Reds to sign Bayern Munich winger Michael Oliseh to replace Mohamed Salah and has admitted he is very worried about what he saw in the Reds’ 4-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.
Josep Guardiola’s side won the FA Cup, but Arne Slott’s side were well off the pace. Dominik Szoboszlai harshly criticized Liverpool’s performance, which showed a lack of fighting spirit.
Gerrard told TalkSPORT: “They had chances but they didn’t take them. We all know in big games you have to take your chances. City were outstanding but the way Liverpool collapsed was worrying and alarming.”

“But at Liverpool Football Club, it’s even more worrying when players say after a game that they have ‘abandoned the game’. That can’t happen on the pitch, you can’t say that off the pitch. I have to say it’s a worrying, worrying time.”
Liverpool have fallen so far from glory this season that they know they must qualify for the Champions League to avoid an embarrassing blush.
Mohamed Salah’s departure this summer means the Reds know they will have one replacement for their talisman, and Gerrard has named the star he would like to replace him with.
“If you’re aiming for Salah, there’s a concern that there are very few players like him,” Gerrard continued. “Olise will be one of them, but I don’t think he will be available.
“From experience, if you’re close to Liverpool, you’ll have different options in your reinforcement squad, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the same. For example, when we had to replace Mane, we brought in Dias, who we signed, but he was a slightly different player. When Suarez and Torres left, they had different types of options to replace players.”
“Liverpool have a great track record of recruiting top players, so I have absolute confidence from a reinforcement point of view that Liverpool will have other options. They need to replenish his goal involvement, which is very difficult, because he has been great for Liverpool for many years.”
Liverpool are set to return to action tomorrow night when they face PSG in the Champions League, and Slott will no doubt be looking for a reaction from his men.
“Of course, qualifying for the Champions League for next season is also very important,” Slott said. “We only have three or four days left so there are a few things we can do, but when you play against Paris Saint-Germain or Man City, a team of this level, one of the things we have to do is defend better than we did in the 20 minutes where we conceded four goals.
“No one will probably remember it, but there was a lot to like about my team in the first 35 minutes. And it would be great if we could score once in a while from the chances we created. Then again, we played a team that was a mile ahead on xG, which happens all the time.”
“And we are always at the bottom of it. But if we want to have a chance of beating Paris Saint-Germain, we have to do both parts better. Once we create chances, we have to score. And we can’t lose so easily with four or three goals, because the penalties were among the other goals we conceded.”
