Maguire was due to become a free agent at the end of the season, but the England centre-back initially agreed a one-year contract extension with an option for a further 12 months.
“I am delighted to be able to extend my career at this great club for at least eight seasons, continue to play in front of our special supporters and create even more great moments together.
“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting team. The determination across the club to fight for big trophies is clear for all to see and we are confident that our best moments remain ahead of us.”
Although some of his time at Old Trafford was marred by poor form and criticism from fans and pundits, Maguire made 266 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals and winning both the FA Cup and League Cup.
He has also been key to United’s resurgence under manager Michael Carrick, starting every game since the caretaker took over in January.
During this period, the Old Trafford club lost just one out of 10 games, moved up to third place in the Premier League, and looked set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, said: “Harry embodies the mentality and resilience needed to perform at Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings valuable experience and leadership to our young and ambitious team.”
“Harry, like everyone at the club, is fully committed to helping Manchester United achieve regular and sustained success.”

Maguire’s new contract comes after the centre-back was recalled by the England squad during a recent international match.
He featured in both the 1-1 draw with Uruguay and the 1-0 defeat against Japan, raising hopes that the 66-cap international would be in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in the United States.
