Charlton said Conor Coady had been released from hospital after losing consciousness during the draw with Watford. Coady was carried off the pitch on a stretcher at the end of the 1-1 draw between the two clubs on Easter Monday.

The veteran defender was knocked out by a powerful shot that hit him in the face. Medical staff quickly responded and the 33-year-old man was taken to hospital for tests.

There was a long delay at Vicarage Road before the match was decided. Matty Godden’s 62nd minute goal for the away team was canceled out by Nestry Ilankunda’s equalizer in the 74th minute for Watford, making it 1-1.

Charlton said in a statement: “Conor Coady has been released from hospital after sustaining a head injury in Monday’s 1-1 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road.

“The 33-year-old was struck by a bullet in stoppage time, rendered unconscious and taken on a stretcher to a local hospital, where he underwent a series of tests.

“Cody has since been given a safe assessment and was discharged from hospital this evening. The club would like to thank Watford’s medical staff for their assistance and support. Charlton’s medical staff will continue to monitor him in accordance with appropriate protocols.”

Charlton manager Nathan Jones paid tribute to Coady after the game. “He was taken to the hospital. He put his body on the line for his 500th (career club) appearance. He gets knocked out, but that’s typical of his performance.”

Jones added on BBC Radio London: “That’s a good point. Watford have outstanding people who can change games and win games. Players who have been paid millions of dollars and talented people from all over Europe.”

“When we scored, they made a lot of aggressive sub shots. We thought it was hard to contain them, but we didn’t give them any clear chances and (goalkeeper) Will Mannion had a great game when they took shots from distance.”

“We really need a win soon so everyone can settle down and start making plans. We’ll probably have to lose every game to get into anything, but the message is to finish the season strong.”

The draw leaves Charlton in 18th place in the Championship, with Watford in 10th place, seven points out of the play-off places with five games in hand.
