Michelle Aggieman’s journey from Ball Girl to England: The World of the World

Michelle Aggieman was once again an English hero on Tuesday night.

This summer’s European Championships became a familiar pattern for the UK. Before completing the escape, you’ll be envious of Trail Harry Houdini for a long time. Faced with Sweden in the quarterfinals, the Lioness had been on two consecutive days at the closing stage, but with the final four they were 90 seconds after being eliminated against Italy.

For some reason, Salina Wigman’s side emerges from both the victorious ties and is now on the brink of history. And of all the English heroes in Switzerland, it is Michel Aggieman with two dramatic strikes, which can most trust their roller coaster passages to the finals on Sunday.

The Aggieman, just 19, is the youngest member of the Wiegmans team who appeared only once on the senior side before the tournament. She featured alongside her new teammate four years ago, but stood on the sidelines as the ball girl in a 4-0 victory in Northern Ireland at Wembley.

The injury to Arsenal teammate Alesia Russo earlier this year gave him the opportunity to advance through the ranks of the youth and step beyond the white line. She took advantage of the opportunity with both hands and scored a spectacular volley just 41 seconds after she left the bench.

The Aggieman spent the 2024/25 season on loan with Brighton. Manager Dario Vidzic predicted that she would be a huge name by the end of summer. He said: “She has a beautiful strike, she knows how to hit the ball, she is dangerous, she owns a lot of weapons, and she will definitely become a popular name sooner and sooner.”

But even Vidosic couldn’t predict how quickly it would happen. Sequential goals on the knockout stage, including a 95-minute equalizer on Tuesday night, mean that she is the new star of the side and has plenty of focus on her.

Chloe Kelly, who netted the historic winner in the Euro 2022 Final, also scored a decisive goal vs. Italy, but she held a special admiration for the game-changing players. “She’s an incredible player. She has a world at her feet. She’s a young player with a bright future and I’m absolutely bustling for her.”

Lucy Bronze will grow his 140th cap this weekend against Spain or Germany.

Aziman admitted that she was still getting to know some of her international colleagues, but there was clearly no problem making her feel in training along with a more established name. Bronze revealed:

“What a great player to play every day in training, and when she comes, you’ll see it like she’s petrified to her, as she comes.”

Wigman resisted the temptation to start an Aggieman, or a fellow Sub Kelly, but still seeks changes after its impact from the bench. “She’s not forced me (to start) and I’m very grateful that she got a few minutes,” Wigman said after her latest batch of heroics.

That means that Aggieman is likely to start looking at the bystanders on Sunday, just as she did at Wembley in Wembley in Wiegman’s third game. However, unlike four years ago, teenagers hope to have a critical impact on making England’s European champions again.
