Despite the lack of on-pitch action at Manchester United, winds of transfer change are blowing through the corridors of Old Trafford. So while supporters will have to wait for their teams to resume play, the latest developments are not lacking in excitement.
Michael Carrick’s side are currently preparing for a trip to Dublin ahead of their season-ending run-in. United will undertake four days of intensive preparation across the Irish Sea in order to take advantage of the break in the fixture list. The Red Devils have seven games left to make their mark this season and secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Carrick’s side return to action at home to Leeds a week later (April 13) and are just one point behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
Here, Express Sport brings you the biggest news surrounding Old Trafford today.
Fernandes: “I will name my successor”
Captain Bruno Fernandes has once again been linked with a move this summer, with many question marks remaining over his replacement. Speaking towards the end of 2025, Fernandes admitted there was interest in signing him last summer and said he could leave in the near future if he does not feel wanted by United.
Replacing such an influential figure would require significant financial expenditure. And Fernandes appears intent on helping United in that regard, reportedly having put his name forward to his current employers.

After all, the name is quite similar to his name. In fact, it is his namesake, as The Sun claims that the player Bruno has recommended as United’s new number 10 is West Ham midfielder Matheus Fernandes.
Bruno was recently away on international duty with Portugal and shared a dressing room with Matthäus. Matthäus made his debut in a 2-0 friendly win against the United States, coming on as a substitute for Bruno.

If United’s current captain’s wishes come true, the torch relay could become more than just a symbol. The former Sporting CP player attracted attention at Southampton and earned a £40m move to West Ham last summer.
However, Matthäus has yet to match Bruno’s performance in the Premier League, with four goals and four assists in 34 appearances this season.
Rashford speaks out about Barcelona’s performance
If there were any concerns that Marcus Rashford’s permanent move to Barcelona was under threat, those fears were put to rest on Saturday. It came after the English player produced a brilliant performance against Atletico Madrid, helping Barcelona win the La Liga title.
Los Cres took a backseat in the Spanish capital. However, Rashford equalized moments later with a sharp attack down the left.
Barcelona beat Atletico 2-1, extending their advantage at the top of the table to seven points. That cushion became even more important after Real Madrid lost 2-1 to Mallorca.
It was recently suggested that Barcelona missed the deadline to sign Rashford for a £26 million transfer fee included in a loan deal. However, it has since been pointed out that those claims may have been premature.
