Manchester United legend Nicky Butt will back Jose Mourinho’s reappointment at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are looking for a permanent head coach following the sacking of Ruben Amorim in January.
Caretaker manager Michael Carrick has had an excellent run as caretaker manager, with just one defeat so far, and is in a position to take on the role on a full-time basis. United currently sit third under the former midfielder and are inching closer to the Champions League, which they have not qualified for for three years.
United’s leaders are yet to decide who will lead the club next season. Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Enrique, Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann and Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner have all been named.

Former Red Devils midfielder Butt has told Paddy Power why he doesn’t mind Mourinho’s return. The Portuguese coach managed United from 2016 to 2018, winning the League Cup and the Europa League during his two-and-a-half seasons in charge.

He said: “I would like to have him back. He is a winner and can lead a football club, but the powers that be will never allow that, because they now want a manager who focuses only on coaching rather than controlling recruitment.”
“No established manager would want to come to Manchester United without the guarantee of budget, time and control.

“The current set-up makes that difficult and they may prefer someone like Michael Carrick instead.”
Carrick’s side need 16 points from their remaining games to secure Champions League qualification, but that will depend on their rivals winning every league game.
United will return to action on Monday 13th April at home against Leeds (8pm CET).
They will then play six more games, with their final game at Brighton & Hove Albion on May 24th.
