Neymar Jr. takes action after furious comments after Santos’ 2-0 win over Remo

Neymar Jr. sparked a controversy when he made the controversial comment that he “woke up on my period” after being admonished by the referee during a match. The Brazil international played in Santos’ 2-0 win over Remo on Thursday night, but suffered trouble in the closing stages.
In the 86th minute, Neymar was fouled by Diego Hernández and protested to referee Savio Pereira Sampaio. This performance earned the 34-year-old his third yellow card in four games and he will be suspended for the next game against Flamengo.
But it wasn’t this flashpoint that caught the public’s attention, but rather his reaction to his subsequent booking. In the post-match interview, Neymar surprised viewers by saying, “It’s very unfair that I got fouled from behind.”
“That’s very disingenuous. There was no need for it, it was at the end of the game. And it wasn’t the first time, it wasn’t the third or fourth time, so I just went to complain to him and was booked right away.”

“Anyway, Savio always feels like that. I think he woke up… (lol) What can I say… I woke up with my period and went straight to the match today.”
Many found the forward’s words offensive, and viewers took to social media to comment on his reaction. One person wrote, “That’s very rude and unprofessional of him. At his level, he wouldn’t be expected to say something like that.”
Another wrote: “Excuse me, then I want a World Cup…boy it’s over.”
A third added: “If you say that to the referee you might get suspended,” while another added: “It’s over for Neymar, bro.”

Neymar has yet to comment on the backlash he has faced as a result of these remarks. Retroactive action could also be taken against the Brazilian following an earlier suspension of another star player.
Red Bull Bragantino defender Gustavo Marquez has been suspended for 12 games by football authorities for making sexist comments towards a female referee. After the loss to Sao Paulo, Marquez said: “It was our dream to reach the semi-finals or even the final, but she ruined our game.
“The São Paulo state football federation should not entrust a woman with such an important match, and it is not good to play against São Paulo, Palmeiras and Corinthians. I think they are putting a woman in charge of such an important match.”
