Dominik Szoboszlai has been the standout player for Arne Slott’s side in a difficult season – and the Liverpool star’s form has led to him being linked with a move to Real Madrid

Dominik Szoboszlai has admitted he is happy at Liverpool and has no plans to leave in the summer due to his links with Real Madrid. Szoboszlai has been in great form for Liverpool this season and talk of him leaving has worried fans.
The Hungarian international was a standout player for coach Arne Slott’s side during a difficult season. He played in 43 games in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing eight assists, despite having to play at right-back most of the time due to injury.
Although he did not arrive on Merseyside until 2023, Hungary manager Marco Rossi recently claimed Szoboszlai had always “dreamed” of playing for Real Madrid. Rossi’s comments came after Real’s Vinicius Junior revealed that he is friends with Szoboszlai and they regularly message him.
The speculation led to hints of a move to Real this summer, as Liverpool’s Premier League title defense collapsed. However, Szoboszlai himself says that such a thing is not considered.

“I love being here,” he told the Liverpool Echo at Merseyside charity Football for Change’s Easter lunch. “My family is happy. I love the club. I love the fans. I love playing for this club. That’s it.”
Szoboszlai is under contract with Liverpool until June 2028 and has shown his talent as both a midfielder and right-back this season. His impact, including several long-range free-kicks, has won praise among Anfield fans and he is pleased with the outcome.
“Actually, I knew (how big Liverpool was) but once you go inside you really understand what it means to be a Liverpool player,” he said. “It was unbelievable, because I still remember having to choose a number and knowing that Naby[Keita]was no longer here so number eight was free.
“It was an easy choice. And when I walked into the practice field and saw how everything was there and what kind of players were playing here, it just felt like a dream come true for me.”

The 25-year-old’s iconic shirt number and driving performance in the middle of the park have led some to compare him to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. “That’s a huge compliment,” Szoboszlai said.
“But I often try to do my own story and sometimes we struggle as a team, but we always try to give everything on the pitch and this season we are trying to do things off the pitch and help the new players who have come from different leagues.
“I know how it feels to be a rookie and I know how difficult it is to come to the Premier League, especially Liverpool, where you are always expected to win trophies.
“I hope (to be a leader), but you have to ask other people how they see that, but I’m trying to do my best on and off the pitch, (unite) everyone and be a leader with what I’m doing on the pitch. That’s the most important thing for me. Hopefully I can change this season for the better.”
