Manchester United are lending Marcus Rashford to Barcelona.
The despair to drive Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford out of the wage bill has seen them dramatically drop the striker’s ratings. Rashford is poised to join Barcelona on a seasonal loan with the option to buy after being frozen by United’s Reuben Amorim.
Amorim’s relationship with Rashford fell apart when he was kicked out of United’s first team in December. He was then loaned out to Aston Villa in January, and Rashford, who revived his career with four goals and six assists in 17 appearances, set his sights on Barca.
The 27-year-old refused to make a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia and patiently waited for the conditions surrounding the move. That’s happening now, and Rashford flew into town earlier this week to complete the final stages of his move.
Barcelona has agreed to lend out Rashford for the 2025/26 season and make it permanent. Barka will pay the full wages after Rashford agrees to take a 15% wage cut from £325,000 a week. He could also sign him for 30 million euros (£26 million).

Earlier this summer, United announced that they would be happy to sell Rashford to clubs that cut £40 million. His contract with the club will run until June 2028, so their asking price was not outrageous, especially considering that he believed he was worth £100 million in April 2024, when Paris Saint-Germain was sniffing.
United’s rapid slide scale around Rashford has shown a forward sourness since Amorim decided. The English striker has been part of Amorim’s so-called “bomb squad” over the past few weeks, forcing him to train separately from Carrington’s first team.
Rashford and relaxed players Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia have arrived at the training ground after 5pm when everyone else has already left. This is a brutal policy that does not have universal support within the building, but is designed to speed up the exit.
Sancho may have been involved in securing an exit for Juventus, while also being poised to set off for Rashford. But what is likely to have done the trick is United’s desperateness to offload the high-paying players that Amorim had revealed his future at the club.
Rashford wasn’t Barcelona’s first choice this summer. The Catalan giant tried to sign Nico Williams from the Athletic Club, but the movement fell apart. They also expressed interest in Liverpool’s winger Louis Diaz, but were deferred to the Reds’ transfer stance.
“I don’t want to talk about players that aren’t on my team, but of course, Lewis Diaz and Marcus Rashford are great players,” manager Hansi Frick said early in the summer. “I like them and see what happens.”
Rashford is not a guaranteed starter either. He can play on the left side of Barca’s 4-3-3 formation, but while Rafinha recognizes he enjoys an incredible campaign in that position, he becomes just a backup for centre forward Robert Lewandowski.
