Harry Maguire was charged by the FA for his reaction to being shown a red card in the 78th minute of Manchester United’s 2-2 draw away to Bournemouth last month.
Harry Maguire has been charged by the FA for his reaction to being sent off during Manchester United’s game against Bournemouth. Maguire, 33, was shown a straight red card in the 78th minute of a Premier League game after knocking down Bournemouth striker Evanilsson inside the penalty area.
Referee Stuart Attwell’s decision was later confirmed by VAR and the resulting penalty was scored by the hosts. Maguire was furious at the decision and confronted both Atwell and the fourth official, Matt Donahue.
And his reaction got him into trouble. The FA said in a statement: “Harry Maguire has been charged after being sent off in the 78th minute of Manchester United’s Premier League match against Bournemouth on 20 March.
“The defender is alleged to have used inappropriate, abusive and insulting language and behavior towards the fourth official following his dismissal. Manager Harry Maguire has until April 2 to respond.”

Maguire was handed a one-match suspension and will miss the Red Devils’ game against Leeds United on Monday, April 13, but given the charges, the suspension could be extended.
United’s next game after Leeds is away to Chelsea on Saturday 18th April. Caretaker manager Michael Carrick was dissatisfied with Maguire’s red card, claiming his team should also have been awarded a penalty earlier in the match for Adrian Traffert’s challenge on Amado.
“We should have given another penalty,” Carrick told Sky Sports after the game. “Obviously, if you get one, you have to get the other, and for me it’s pretty much the same, I grab it with both hands.

“In any case, I can’t wrap my head around the fact that[the referee]made one mistake and then he gave one and didn’t give the other. I think it’s crazy. It’s really a little baffling. That’s why they scored and then it was chaos, really. He should have given another penalty, and the game would have been completely different.”
United captain Bruno Fernandes was furious: “It’s almost the same situation as Amad, we get a penalty. One is rewarded with a penalty, the other is not.”
“I know it’s difficult for the referee to award two penalties in the same match for the same team, but what I don’t understand is why VAR isn’t involved in that situation. Either one is a penalty and the other is a penalty, or neither is a penalty.”
