Casemiro is set to waive his contract extension clause and leave Manchester United at the end of this season, but revealed his wife was crying as supporters chanted.
Casemiro revealed that his wife was moved to tears when Manchester United supporters begged him to stay at Old Trafford for another season. This comes after a clause in his contract was waived in an agreement with United.
The 34-year-old Brazilian is set to leave the Red Devils when his contract expires this summer. He joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 for a fee worth up to £70m and has spent the past four years in Manchester, making over 150 appearances and winning two major trophies.
Casemiro has been one of United’s standout performers this season. The former Porto player has missed just two games all season for the Reds and has forged a solid partnership with Coby Mainu since the arrival of Michael Carrick in mid-January as he aims to help the club finish in the top four.

In United’s most recent home game, a 3-1 win over Aston Villa, fans chanted “Casemiro, another year, Casemiro” after breaking the deadlock against the Red Devils. The midfielder headed home from a Bruno Fernandes corner and celebrated in front of the North West corner.
Immediately after, Casemiro’s wife, Anna Mariana, burst into tears. The midfielder explained: “To be honest, I’m very happy, especially with the love from the fans and the respect they have for me.
“So I’m just grateful for this love and it’s so exciting. I hope I don’t cry on my last day because it’s such a beautiful experience.”

“My wife was already crying the other day when the fans said they wanted it to last another year. So I just want to enjoy it, enjoy every moment, and I’m going to remain a United fan for the rest of my life.”
Casemiro had a clause in his contract with United that would trigger a one-year extension if he started 35 Premier League games in his final season at the club, but he is still set to reach that figure. However, Casemiro and the club reached an agreement in January to waive this clause during talks to formally confirm his departure from United at the end of the 2025/26 season.
He was informed by United officials at the start of the season that his contract would not be renewed, but chose to make the news public in early 2026, with United formally agreeing to the request. Casemiro has seven games remaining in a United shirt, starting with the Premier League game against Leeds United on Monday 13th April.
