Chelsea have revealed a staggering pre-tax loss of £262.4m in their latest financial report. The Premier League giants have attributed part of their losses to increased operating costs for the 2024/25 season, but still remain compliant with the PSR.

The news from Chelsea comes a year after the London-based club announced a profit of £128.4m, partly due to the sale of their women’s team to Bruco Midco for around £200m. Despite Chelsea running a budget deficit, the Blues are expected to remain compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules for three years until the 2024/25 season.

Under these rules, Chelsea will be allowed to record losses of £105 million over three years, excluding losses related to infrastructure investment, the women’s team and the development of young players.

It is understood that Chelsea have complied with PSR rules and have not been penalized for any financial breaches. This also applies to the league as a whole, with no clubs facing PSR violations in 2025/26.

Chelsea reported income of £490.9 million, the second highest income in the club’s history. Nevertheless, it was not enough to prevent the club from declaring a significant loss in its recent financial results.

A portion of the proceeds went towards Chelsea’s victory at last year’s FIFA Club World Cup, where the London side defeated Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the final to lift the trophy.

As of Wednesday morning, Chelsea had not yet published its full financial results on its website, but it had filed its financial statements with the Enterprise Authority. The announcement also revealed that Chelsea’s women’s team recorded a loss of £17.1m, despite having a revenue of £21.3m.

The Blues are expected to report revenues of £700m for the 2025/26 season, which will be announced next year.

Back in March, Chelsea were slapped with an academy transfer ban and a hefty fine for historic breaches in financial reporting and third-party investment.

Chelsea’s new owner Bruko has self-declared the club into the Premier League after buying it from Roman Abramovich.

The Blues were found guilty of making undisclosed payments to players, unregistered agents and other third parties from third parties connected to the club.

As a result, Chelsea handed him a £10 million fine, a one-year first-team transfer ban and a two-year suspension.
