England will face Ghana in the World Cup final on June 23, but the African nation has sacked manager Otto Addo after consecutive defeats to European nations.
Ghana sacked coach Otto Addo just 72 days before the start of the World Cup. The Black Stars are England’s second group opponents on June 23, but Ghana took the ax after suffering four consecutive defeats.
There was also a time when Ghana failed to qualify for the African Cup of Nations despite having star players like Antoine Semenyo and Mohamed Kudus. Ghana lost 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart last Friday night, just days after losing 4-1 to Austria, marking the end of Addo’s second spell in charge.
Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Addo, 50, led Ghana to the last World Cup and was reappointed in March 2024, but lost nine of his 22 games in charge.

There was a huge backlash from the fans and Addo was sacked just hours after the defeat to Germany, even though the home side needed Deniz Undav’s winning goal in the 88th minute to secure victory. Ghana also lost to Japan and South Korea in November.
“The Ghana Football Association will communicate the Black Stars’ new technical direction in due course,” the Ghana Football Association said in a statement.
Ghana begin their match against Panama on June 18, before taking on England in Boston. After completing the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27th, Ghana FA leaders are aiming to advance to this summer’s knockout stages.
