Ben White recently returned to the England squad for the first time since the 2022 World Cup, when he left camp citing personal reasons.
A new theory surrounding Ben White’s infamous fall to England has emerged. The Arsenal defender returned to the Three Lions squad for the first time under manager Thomas Tuchel this month.
White was called up as an injured replacement for Jarrell Quansah. He came on as a substitute in Friday’s game against Uruguay and was jeered by some England fans when he ended his time in international exile.
The 28-year-old appeared to have scored the winning goal for Tuchel’s side in the closing stages, but he conceded a penalty and the game ended 1-1. However, speculation continues over the origins of previous disputes during Gareth Southgate’s tenure.
The Arsenal star has withdrawn from the 2022 World Cup squad due to personal reasons. A new explanation for his absence has emerged amid persistent rumors of a falling out with England’s coaching staff.

Broadcaster Adrian Durham told talkSPORT: “I understand this is what happened to Ben White.” “The players were asked to watch videos of their opponents and were given videos on laptops, iPads, etc.

“He decided not to do it, but the England analysts knew because they had the technology and who had seen the video and who hadn’t. When asked about it, Ben White got really angry about it until he quit England.”
“If that’s true, then why on earth would manager Thomas Tuchel want him back in the squad when he’s not ready to run the tough yards to do as well as England can against the opponents they play? If that’s not the case, then I’m sorry, but let’s get the truth out of the way.”
White was booed at several points during his appearance against Uruguay, including when he was announced as the team’s scorer. England manager Tuchel admitted he was disappointed with the crowd’s reaction to his versatile defender.
However, there is still a chance he will start in England’s match against Japan on Tuesday. The Three Lions plan to rotate their squad and Tuchel has confirmed White is in his plans.
“He has our support and I think he feels our support and the support of the group,” Tuchel said of White’s heckling. “I understand that it’s already happened to other players and we hope they take that out of our system and if he plays tomorrow he’ll have a chance because it makes sense to play with a lot of guys who have fresh legs and didn’t start the first game.”
“He’s one of them. And if he’s had a good training session, he’ll be one of them. I haven’t been in any meetings or discussions without the coach, and I’ve been in a lot of meetings watching things like Japan. So I’m not completely aware, but I think so. That’s my guess. He’s been great, he’s been good in training, he’s been good in the group.”
