Residents living near England World Cup hotels will be given a special invitation to a reception as a ‘thank you’ and apology for the disruption
England’s World Cup players will take part in a special welcome event to thank residents who live near the team’s headquarters, which caused the chaos.
Thomas Tuchel’s men have taken over the entire Inn at Meadowbrook hotel near Kansas City, USA. That means it will be closed for at least five weeks. Hotel managers have now written a lengthy letter to local residents, apologizing in advance for any inconvenience caused. But they promised a series of sweet treats, including a special reception and discounts on food and alcohol.
“As a welcome gesture, the group will be hosting a residents-only reception to introduce themselves to the neighborhood,” the letter reads.

“This is remarkable for our community and is a testament to the world-class environment that Meadowbrook offers. While this is an exciting development, it will bring a temporary change to daily life in the neighborhood. We wanted to share some of the details we know at this time.”
“During the stay, The Inn, including The Market and Verbena (restaurant), will be dedicated solely to organizational operations and will not be accessible to residents or the general public.
“The group’s focus here is professional training and preparation, and we are working hard to minimize the impact on daily life in the neighborhood.” Residents will also be given discount cards for both restaurants to use until the end of the year. The hotel did not explicitly state that England were guests, but Tuchel confirmed this.
Work has already begun to improve facilities at nearby Swope Soccer Village, where Tuchel’s team train. Tuchel expressed his delight at the choice of hotel and training facilities for Harry Kane and his team.
Although there is no golf course at the hotel, there are some top quality golf courses nearby. There is an outdoor pool and hot tub. The well-stocked wine cellar includes £750 of California red, and if England bothers to visit, he’ll find £190 of rosé champagne to celebrate his success.
“We’re trying to do that because basically it was a choice: to have a home, to have a headquarters, to have a comfortable bed, to have a bed with a good mattress, to have a hotel where you can have privacy, to have a small hotel.
“In a hotel with 400, 500, 800 beds, you probably just meet in the elevator or on the floor between breakfast and meetings, and the air conditioning is on and you can’t open the windows.
“There are a lot of hotels like this in America, but I think that’s the difference. So we chose a hotel where you could open the windows. And we chose a hotel that was intimate and in a small location. Once you get used to the location, I think it makes sense to come back.”
“We’re getting feedback from the players that they like the slow start and then they like the condensed content. So if you watch it for a long time, hopefully throughout the tournament and not just the players, there’s no chance you’ll get bored.”
“We felt like one more day would have been pretty helpful, so yeah, these were decisions that had to be made. The headline will probably be, ‘We try to stay in Kansas as often as possible.'”
The letter stated multiple times that additional details regarding the impact on the Meadowbrook Park area would be shared closer to the team’s arrival.
“Some details may continue to evolve as it is still approximately 90 days since the group’s arrival,” the letter said. The letter ended by asking for “discretion” from Meadowbrook residents regarding the team’s stay plans.
