Enzo Fernandes has hinted that he would like to play for Real Madrid as the Chelsea midfielder faces an uncertain future
Enzo Fernandes remains heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid after confessing he would enjoy the opportunity to live in the Spanish capital. The Chelsea midfielder has faced multiple questions over a potential move to Los Blancos, and his latest comments were particularly revealing.
He said this during a kick delivery with Marcos Giles. “I want to experience what it’s like to live there, but I don’t know. I like Madrid very much. It reminds me a lot of Buenos Aires.” Fernández was then told that to get that experience, “I could go to Getafe or Rayo Vallecano… There’s also Atlético Madrid.”
Although Real’s name was not mentioned, the implication was so clear that those on the stream, including Fernandes himself, grinned after the statement. The 25-year-old hasn’t done anything good for himself in recent weeks. The comments were particularly worrying after Paris Saint-Germain eliminated Chelsea from the Champions League.

“I don’t know (if I’ll leave Chelsea), I have eight games left and the FA Cup,” he said. “There’s the World Cup, so let’s see then.”
He addressed his future again later this month, adding: “No, to be honest, I won’t say anything. Right now I’m focused on Chelsea and the rest of the last few games of the season, but we’ll see after the World Cup.”
Fernandes has also been linked with a move to PSG, but a move to Real seems more likely at the moment given their ambition to strengthen their midfield options. Manchester City midfielder Rodri has been similarly linked, and left the door ajar on a potential future move in a recent interview.

Liam Rosenior was asked for his thoughts on Fernandes’ comments and the Chelsea manager revealed a private exchange between the pair.
“I feel like I had a long talk with Enzo this morning (last Thursday) before practice, not just about his comments, but also about how he feels and how we can improve as a team.
“He is one of the captains of the club. What I would like to say is that he has made it really clear to me how happy he is to be at this club, how much he wants to win and how passionate he is for our success.”
“And he also said that sometimes in translation and in emotion, what he says can be misunderstood. So for me, he’s committed to this group and he’s committed to winning with this football club.”
Rosenior’s own position has recently come under scrutiny following four consecutive defeats before the March international break.
Despite this, Rosenior is heavily involved in transfer talks as both he and the club prepare for the summer window, and it is understood that the pair have no intention of going their separate ways at the end of the season.
Securing Champions League football next season will almost certainly prove important in bringing in new players, and Chelsea face a serious battle to achieve that. They currently occupy sixth place in the Premier League table, just one point behind Liverpool, with Brentford and Everton close behind in seventh and eighth respectively.
